Slow but sure!

I've learned so much over the past couple of months, especially regarding frame making. I finally bought a proper woodworking saw and mitre box, and the results with them are amazing! I've completed 6 pieces, and am currently working on 2 more. I was a bit frustrated as a couple of the galleries I was hoping to get my work into closed, but I found two more that I plan on contacting as soon as I finish my current works. I just want to have enough pieces to represent my collections and my work styles. I'm keeping my hopes up that I'll get in somewhere before the holidays. ~Peace~

Sold!

So happy that my piece "Riding The Storm Out" sold to a good friend today! In hindsight, I feel like I created this piece just for her, and I'm truly happy that she will enjoy it for a long time to come.   ~Peace~

There's always something new to learn!

I went to our local framing shop over the weekend to find out how much it will cost to frame my pieces. I was really caught off guard when the sales gal informed me that they couldn't do a frame that I was interested in doing. Um, what? Isn't this a frame shop? All I want is a simple "shadow box" frame, nothing ornate or fancy. She dismissed me by saying, "Perhaps you should just go down to the hardware store, get some trim moulding and make them yourself". What a sweetheart. **eyeroll**  Okie dokie then, off to the hardware store I go! I found some lattice trim that is the width I need, had it cut and home I headed. Well, I guess I'm going to be making my own art frames. I have a bit to learn (thank you You Tube!) and a few more supplies to pick up, and we'll see how this whole thing comes together. In the long run this will save me quite a bit of money, so perhaps the snarky sales gal really did me a big favor after all. You never know what will s...

My Current Inspiration

Image
Butterflies are the main elements in my current collection. I didn't choose them, it's more like they chose me. I share a wonderful bond with butterflies, specifically Monarchs, as last year I raised and released my first one. The experience was so magical, that I look forward to doing it again every Spring! I currently have one in chrysalis that is due to enclose (emerge) in about a week or so. (Update: I released my beautiful girl "Gemini"  into the wind on the 19th!) I feel they represent so many things....freedom, hope, renewal, change, etc. Not to mention that they're simply beautiful. So the butterfly is taking center stage in my current pieces. I do not sit and ponder the direction a piece will take, I just let it flow as I go. I feel it, I don't plan it. Now that I think about it, that's pretty much how I live. Wow, art really does imitate life, eh?  ~peace~

Well, who am I and what am I doing here?

and welcome to my newest Blog, Soul Canvas . This will be a perfect place to showcase my pieces, as well as express my viewpoints on art and life. Well, for starters, my birth name is Barb, although I feel I'm more a Babs type. I'm a 63 year old woman that never gets tired of reinventing myself. I'm also pretty (very) outspoken, and sometimes my wit and honesty get me into trouble. That's not going to change at this point in my life! (Just giving you a heads up on that one!) I've been an artist to one degree or another all of my life, and although the course has been anything but straight, I always seem to end up in the same place, time and time again. Creating art in some way. I've recently opened up the creative portals again, and the work I'm doing is making me so overwhelmingly happy that I need to share it! I do look forward to comments and constructive advice, so please share your thoughts on my pieces and my musings. Time is precious, so I...
